One of Russia’s largest petrochemical complexes, located at SIBUR’s Tobolsk industrial site. The complex is integrated with natural-gas-liquids fractionation and processes Western Siberian hydrocarbon feedstocks into marketable hydrocarbon fractions, ethylene, propylene and basic polymers. Polymer production capacity is approximately 2.5 million tonnes per year, including 1.5 million tonnes of polyethylene and 1 million tonnes of polypropylene, while the Tobolsk site’s gas-fractionation capacity reaches 8 million tonnes of feedstock per year.
A central gas fractionation unit at the petrochemical complex was hit and a fire broke out. The facility subsequently shut down completely for an indefinite period due to the damage.
Full shutdown and halt of exchange-traded LPG supplies
According to three industry sources cited by Reuters, the complex fully shut down for an indefinite period after the strike. Exchange-traded LPG supplies from the Tobolsk site were halted. The complex produces about 6 million tonnes of LPG per year, roughly 40% of Russia’s output.
